jUST BACK- being not alone, my better half wanting Spain, we travelled to Biarritz in France, no not because I'm an unyielding tyrannt but simply because the airport at Biarritz is only ten miles from the Pyrennees {spanish border} and it costs anywhere from 500 to 700 euros less. Not having an endless supply of money that makes all the difference and it is an international rule. If you are flying to Venice then Marco Polo airport will cost you more than Treviso, bear it in mind, if you can fly to somewhere near your intended destination as opposed to where your holiday is actually based you may seve yourself more than you need for a nicer hire car or a nicer hotel, why pay extra for a lesser experience? The other thing I would always suggest is if the airline you are booking with say Ryanair promotes a particular hire car firm , in this case Hertz, book with somebody else. WHY? well when you arrive in a hot country and maybe feeling a little worn; the last thing you need is to go and stand in the queue with everybody else from the same flight especially when you're the last in the queue because your luggage appeared last on the conveyer belt; book with eurocar or budget instead , be first out of the airport, relax, after all that's why you are there.
